What is Adapted Fitness?
The Adapted Fitness Program provides personalized training for individuals with diverse abilities, helping them build strength, confidence, and independence in a supportive environment. Through our student-led teams, clients work toward their unique fitness goals with guidance from our undergraduate volunteers. This program serves as a learning experience for students, who gain hands-on experience in designing and implementing individualized fitness plans, while clients receive personalized support to explore new approaches to exercise in an inclusive and empowering space.
Our People
At the heart of UW–Madison’s Adapted Fitness Program is a dedicated team of faculty, staff, students, and community members who work together to create an inclusive and empowering environment. Our team is committed to breaking barriers and promoting lifelong wellness for individuals of all abilities.
We are also grateful for our strong campus partnerships with Adult Career and Special Student Services, Department of Kinesiology, McBurney Disability Resource Center, Rec Well, Transportation Services, and many others. Their support helps us expand opportunities, enhance accessibility, and continue fostering a welcoming space for all.
The Conway Adapted Fitness Facility
Made possible by a generous gift from Virginia “Ginny”and Mike Conway, the Conway Adapted Fitness facility provides a permanent home for UW–Madison’s Adapted Fitness Program in the Bakke Recreation and Wellbeing Center.
Inspired by the program’s impact, the Conways’ support has created a space that is truly inclusive space for individuals with diverse abilities. Thanks to the Conways, Adapted Fitness can continue its mission of breaking barriers, building community, and promoting lifelong wellness.
